  • Education

Iowa has a long tradition of providing high quality education. Now our students are competing with students not only in other states, but with students from around the globe. We cannot afford to let our schools slip behind. That's why we need to strive for excellence in education through innovation, quality instruction and early childhood education as well as ensuring higher education is affordable. As a former teacher with a Master's degree in instructional technology, I know that our schools must prepare students for the challenges and opportunities in today's global economy and rapidly changing information age.

  • Health Care

Every Iowan deserves access to quality, affordable health care. Middle class families are struggling with the high cost of health care and unless we work together to improve health care, premiums and co-pays will continue to soar and Iowans and businesses continue to suffer the consequence. We need to: 1) make sure all Iowans, especially children, have access to health care, 2) make insurance more affordable for businesses and individuals, and 3) encourage people to lead a healthy lifestyle to lower the cost of medical care.

  • Small Business

Marion's economy, and that of surrounding small towns are built on a vibrant small business community. High taxes, a shortage of dependable employees, and high health insurance rates hurt small businesses and make it difficult for entrepreneurs to get started. We need to lower the tax burden for small business owners and develop cost effective plans so more small companies can afford health insurance for their employees. Additionally, we can attract a more talented and dependable workforce to our area if we invest in more amenities and recreation opportunities.

  • Safe Communities

Our community is a great place to raise a family. I know, my husband and I chose Marion as our home 12 years ago and enjoy the secure and welcome atmosphere. We need to make sure public safety is a top priority by keeping our police and fire departments up to date with the latest equipment and technology resources. This will protect our children from predators, both on the streets and on-line. A safe community also means we must educate parents and community leaders and fight the increasing threats from cyber crime to protect kids, senior citizens, and unsuspecting citizens from high-tech criminals.
